About the Chef

Food has always been more than just something on a plate for me—it’s been a source of comfort, connection, and creativity. Growing up, my mom was a single mother, and we often struggled just to keep food on the table. We relied on food stamps, and there were times when a good meal felt like a luxury. That experience shaped me in ways I never expected. It made me passionate about making sure no one feels alone in their journey with food.

For six years, I had the word “Somber” on my vision board without knowing what it would become. Not for its darkness, but for the feeling it could create—a café, a plate of food, a moment of reflection. It was just a dream. I spent years creating food just for fun, sharing it on Instagram to stay creative. But in 2024, on a whim, I signed up for culinary school—just three days before the deadline. I had no idea I was about to start a journey that would change everything.

Two weeks before school started, I developed a health condition that forced me to cut out gluten completely. Navigating culinary school with a brand-new dietary restriction was overwhelming, but it also taught me how to make food that’s just as delicious, without compromise. That’s when I knew—I wanted to create something bigger than just meals.

Somber is more than just a word—it’s a feeling. To me, it represents warmth, depth, and the kind of meals that make you slow down and savor the moment. While ‘somber’ is often associated with quiet or reflection, I see it as a way to describe food that is intentional, nourishing, and deeply comforting. It’s about creating meals that tell a story, bring people together, and provide a sense of belonging.

With Somber Catering, my goal is to provide affordable, high-quality meals for my community, including those on food stamps or tight budgets, while also offering delicious gluten-free options for those who need them. Beyond meal prep, I also cater wellness retreats, business events, and small gatherings, creating thoughtful, nourishing meals that bring people together.

This isn’t just a business—it’s my passion, my story, and my way of making sure everyone has a seat at the table. I can’t wait to cook for you!
